Under the auspices of the University President, Prof. Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti, the \u200eCommunity Center for Translation and Language Teaching (CCTLT) at Sana\u2019a University, , \u200eorganized a specialized workshop entitled \u201cBeyond the Textbook: Innovative Teaching and \u200eAssessment Strategies for Language Instructors\u201d on Wednesday, September 17, 2025. The \u200eworkshop, presented by distinguished trainer Mr. Mamoun Al-Sa\u2019ar, brought together 32 \u200elanguage instructors from various language specialties, providing a dynamic platform for the \u200eexchange of expertise and the development of teaching skills.\u200e<\/p>\n

The workshop aimed to improve the professional performance of in-service language teachers \u200eby focusing on innovative teaching methods that move beyond traditional approaches, \u200ealongside effective assessment strategies that measure students\u2019 deeper understanding and \u200epractical application. The main topics covered included:\u200e<\/p>\n

\u2022 Persuasive Presentation Skills: Practical training on using body language, eye \u200econtact, and storytelling to boost active student engagement and participation.\u200e
\n\u2022 Innovative Assessment Methods: Discussions on the shift from traditional testing \u200eto modern mechanisms such as self-assessment, peer assessment, and project-based \u200eand performance-based evaluation
\n\u2022 Creating a Supportive Classroom Environment: An exploration of practical \u200estrategies for building a “safe space” within the classroom that encourages \u200eexperimentation and learning from mistakes.\u200e
\n\u2022 Visual Design for Presentations: Participants received training on the principles \u200eof effective visual design to strengthen learning outcomes.\u200e
\n\u2022 Integrating Technology in Language Teaching: Practical applications of digital \u200etools in classroom practice.\u200e<\/p>\n

The workshop yielded tangible outcomes, equipping participants with both personal and \u200eprofessional skills, as well as a practical toolkit featuring assessment rubrics to ensure fair and \u200etransparent evaluation. This shifted participants\u2019 perception of assessment from mere \u200eknowledge-testing to genuine measurement of skills and application. \u200e<\/p>\n

Prof. Ibraheem Tagaddeen, the Center\u2019s Director, emphasized, \u201cThis workshop forms part of \u200ethe Center\u2019s strategic plan to improve the professional skills of our instructors, enhance \u200eteaching quality, and empower faculty with the latest educational methods and tools.\u201d He \u200ecommended the efforts of the Language Teaching Department and the organizing team for \u200ethe success of the event.\u200e<\/p>\n

Participants expressed appreciation for the workshop\u2019s academic value and highlighted the \u200eimmediate applicability of its practical content in their classrooms.\u200e<\/p>\n

CCTLT, under the auspices of the University Presidency, continues to organize a series of \u200escientific and training events that contribute to advancing educational quality and \u200estrengthening the University\u2019s role as a leading academic institution.\u200e<\/p>\n
