Ms. Afnan Ali Mohammed Ahmed An-Nahari was awarded a Master\u2019s Degree in Translation with an average of Excellent and a grade of (95) for her thesis titled: \u200e Cultural Manipulation of Children’s Literature Dubbing from English into Arabic: A Translation Quality Assessment of Extralinguistic Cultural References in The Simpsons, which was submitted to the Community Center for Translation and Language Teaching (CCTLT) \u2013 Sana\u2019a University. The MA defense was held on Thursday, February 5, 2026.<\/p>\n

\n\uf02d Identify the strategies used in the dubbed Arabic version of The Simpsons, \u200ebased on \u200ePedersen\u2019s (2011) taxonomy of ECR transfer strategies.
\n\uf02d Assess the translation quality of the dubbed children’s series The Simpsons from English into Arabic in light of Pedersen\u2019s \u200e(2017) \u200eFAR model of quality assessment.\u200e<\/p>\n

\nThe study yielded a number of key findings summarized as follows:
\n\uf02d The primary difficulty in translating extralinguistic cultural references lies in rendering meaning \u200eheavily \u200eembedded in Western culture for a Muslim Arab child audience.\u200e
\n\uf02d The translation tends to rely on substituting Western cultural references with elements \u200emore compatible with Arab children\u2019s culture.\u200e
\n\uf02d These challenges are partly attributable to insufficient oversight by regulatory bodies \u200eand \u200etranslation institutions in evaluating content targeting Arab children, as well \u200eas a lack of \u200escholarly research on children\u2019s literature translation.\u200e
\nIn light of these findings, the researcher recommended the following:
\n\uf02d Giving greater attention to assessing the quality of translating cultural references in \u200econtent directed at Muslim Arab children.\u200e
\n\uf02d Strengthening collaboration among translators, educational specialists, and reviewers \u200ewithin cartoon production institutions to ensure culturally and pedagogically \u200eappropriate \u200edubbed versions.\u200e
\n\uf02d Establishing clear criteria for evaluating the quality of translating cultural references in \u200eanimated works, with due consideration for cultural suitability and semantic \u200eaccuracy.\u200e
\n\uf02d Encouraging further research on the impact of translators\u2019 cultural choices on shaping \u200ethe \u200eideology of Muslim Arab children across various animated series.\u200e\u200e<\/p>\n
