Sana\u2019a University CCTLT Holds Seminar for MA \u200eResearch Proposal in Media Translation<\/p>\n

The Department of Translation and Applications at the Community Center for Translation \u200eand Language Teaching (CCTLT), Sana’a University held an academic seminar to discuss \u200ethe Master’s thesis proposal submitted by researcher Fatimah Yahya Sharaf Al-Deen, \u200eentitled:\u200e<\/p>\n

Ideological Filtering in Media Discourse: Yemeni Translators\u2019 Decision-Making in Rendering Arabic Politicized Terminology into English<\/p>\n

The seminar committee consisted of:\u200e

\n\u2022 Assoc. Prof. Abdulwadood Annuzaili
\n\u2022 Dr. Faisal Al-Dawli
\n\u2022 Dr. Hisham Al-Mekhlafi<\/p>\n

During the seminar, the researcher delivered a detailed presentation of her research \u200eproposal, outlining the study problem, objectives, and research questions. She highlighted \u200ethe challenges translators face when dealing with politically loaded terminology with \u200eideological implications in media discourse, as well as the factors influencing Yemeni \u200etranslators\u2019 decision-making processes when translating political terms from English into \u200eArabic.\u200e<\/p>\n

The researcher emphasized the significance of media translation in shaping public \u200eopinion and conveying political messages. She explained that political terminology \u200eextends beyond linguistic meanings to encompass ideological and cultural dimensions \u200ethat may affect readers\u2019 interpretation of translated texts. She also addressed the \u200echallenges associated with maintaining neutrality and accuracy when rendering such \u200eterms.\u200e<\/p>\n

The proposed study further examined the factors influencing translators\u2019 decisions and \u200ethe ethical and professional challenges they may encounter when dealing with \u200eideologically loaded political terminology. The researcher indicated that the study would \u200eemploy a mixed-method approach for data collection and analysis, utilizing both a \u200etranslation test and a questionnaire to identify the major difficulties and strategies \u200einvolved in translating this category of terminology.\u200e<\/p>\n

At the end of the seminar, the academic committee discussed the proposal, commended \u200ethe researcher\u2019s efforts and the importance of the topic, and recommended approval of \u200ethe thesis registration and continuation of the research process, subject to incorporating \u200ethe academic observations and recommendations presented during the discussion.\u200e<\/p>\n\n
