Ms. Yusra Ali Ali Al-Sha\u2019awri <\/strong>was awarded a Master’s degree in Orthodontics <\/strong>with an average of (Excellent<\/strong>) and a grade of (95%)<\/strong> for her thesis titled: The Impact of Platelet-Rich Derivative Injections on Orthodontic Canine Retraction Rate: A Split-Mouth Randomized Controlled Study<\/em><\/strong>, which was submitted to the Department of Orthodontics, and Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry \u2013 Sana\u2019a University. The MA defense was held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The study aimed to evaluate and compare the efficacy of platelet-rich derivatives (PRDs) on accelerating orthodontic tooth movement during the distal retraction of maxillary canines.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The study concluded that the use of injectable platelet-rich plasma (i-PRP) and injectable platelet-rich fibrin (i-PRF) individually enhanced the rate of canine retraction at different stages of i-PRP treatment, producing an early effect, while i-PRF contributed in later stages. However, applying both on opposite sides of the same patient\u2019s mouth did not produce a statistically significant acceleration in tooth movement.<\/p>\n

Based on the findings, the researcher proposed several recommendations summarized as follows:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • The i-PRP and i-PRF may be considered adjunctive methods for accelerating orthodontic tooth movement, taking into account that their impact depends on injection intervals.<\/li>\n
  • Orthodontists should closely monitor the abutment (anchorage stability) when using both i-PRP and i-PRF in both halves of the same patient\u2019s mouth due to the potential risk of molar abutment loss.<\/li>\n
  • The use of i-PRP and i-PRF does not appear to negatively affect pain perception, supporting their safety in terms of patient comfort.<\/li>\n
  • The application of biologic adjuvants should be case-specific, balancing expected benefits with abutment requirements and long-term therapeutic goals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The defense session was attended by a number of academics, researchers, and interested participants, colleagues and the researcher\u2019s family members.<\/p>\n
