Mr. Mohammed Jabr Saleh Al-Qah <\/strong>was awarded a Master\u2019s Degree in Hematology <\/strong>with an average of Very Good and a grade of (89) for his thesis titled: Hematological Abnormalities and Associated Risk Factors among Under-Five Year Children with Malnutrition Attending Al-Wahdah University Teaching Hospital, Thamar, Yemen<\/em><\/strong>, <\/em>which was submitted to Department of Hematology and Laboratory Blood Transfusion, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences \u2013 Sana\u2019a University. The MA defense was held on Sunday, Ramadan 5, 1447 Hijri, corresponding to February 22, 2026\u200e.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The MA Viva-voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The thesis aimed to determine the prevalence of hematological disorders and associated risk factors among malnourished children under five years of age through a cross-sectional study involving 278 children. Participants were classified into Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) according to World Health Organization criteria.<\/p>\n

The study yielded several key findings summarized as follows:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • \u200e3% of participants were diagnosed with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM).\u200e<\/li>\n
  • The prevalence of anemia was 52.9%, mostly mild and microcytic in type.\u200e<\/li>\n
  • Leukocytosis (54.0%) and thrombocytosis (54.7%) were among the most prominent \u200erecorded abnormalities.\u200e<\/li>\n
  • Statistically significant associations were found between anemia and several \u200edemographic and health-related factors, in addition to certain environmental and \u200esocial variables.\u200e<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    In light of these findings, the researcher recommended the following:\u200e<\/p>\n

      \n
    • Strengthening early screening programs for hematological disorders among \u200emalnourished children.\u200e<\/li>\n
    • Integrating health and social factors into therapeutic and preventive intervention \u200e\u200e<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      The defense session was attended by a number of academics, researchers, students, colleagues, and the researcher\u2019s family.<\/p>\n
