Mr. Faisal Shoay Mohammed Hajj <\/strong>was awarded a Master\u2019s Degree in Hematology <\/strong>with an average of Very Good and a grade of (89) for his thesis titled: Coagulation Profile in Yemeni Patients with Sickle Cell Anemia<\/em><\/strong>, <\/em>which was submitted to Department of Hematology and Laboratory Blood Transfusion, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences \u2013 Sana\u2019a University. The MA defense was held on Sunday, Ramadan 5, 1447 Hijri, corresponding to February 22, 2026\u200e.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The MA Viva-voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The thesis aimed to evaluate coagulation indicators in patients with sickle cell anemia by measuring clotting \u200etimes (PT and APTT) and D-dimer levels, assess natural anticoagulants \u200ethrough Protein C levels and platelet counts, and compare them with healthy controls to \u200edetermine hypercoagulability risks.<\/p>\n

The findings of the study showed:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • \u200eA clear disturbance in the coagulation process, characterized by prolonged clotting times and significantly elevated D-dimer levels, indicating continuous activation of the coagulation system even during stable conditions.<\/li>\n
  • A marked decrease in Protein C levels, with further reduction during vaso-occlusive crises.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    In light of these findings, the researcher recommended the following:\u200e<\/p>\n

    • Including coagulation marker testing in the routine follow-up of sickle cell anemia \u200e\u200e<\/li>\n
    • Integrating thrombosis risk assessment into treatment protocols.\u200e<\/li>\n
    • Conducting broader studies to enhance scientific understanding and develop more \u200eeffective preventive strategies.\u200e<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      The defense session was attended by a number of academics, researchers, students, colleagues, and the researcher\u2019s family.<\/p>\n
