SANA\u2019A \u2014 June 13, 2026 \u2014 Sana\u2019a University\u2019s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences officially launched the 37th Annual Senior Research Conference today. The six-day scientific symposium, running through June 18, will showcase 56 comprehensive medical studies co-authored by 730 graduating medical students across various healthcare disciplines.
\nDay one featured rigorous defense sessions covering nine pivotal biomedical studies. The morning panel addressed global health topics, including pediatric mortality factors, the correlation between Vitamin D deficiency and infertility, the evolving role of Artificial Intelligence in clinical practice, and the accessibility of emergency diagnostic imaging. The afternoon session focused on the clinical determinants of Cesarean sections, the impact of Gat consumption on medical students’ sleep quality and first-aid awareness, barriers to timely stroke interventions, and maternal awareness of obstetric danger signs in the Capital Secretariat (Sana\u2019a).
\nThe high-profile opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Mr. Hassan Al-Saadi, Sana\u2019a University Rector Prof. Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti, and Political Bureau Member Judge Abdullah Al-Ne\u2019mi. Joining them were Vice Presidents Prof. Mohammed Shukri (Student Affairs), Prof. Ibrahim Al-Muta\u2019a (Academic Affairs), and Dr. Hamoud Al-Ahnomi (Graduate Studies), alongside Vice Rector for Medical Affairs Dr. Abdulhafed Thawabah, Medical Dean Prof. Mohammed Al-Shehari, various hospital directors, and Dhamar University Rector Prof. Mohammed Al-Haifi.
\nIn his keynote address, Minister Al-Saadi commended the extraordinary perseverance of the graduating class and their families, acknowledging their resilience and financial sacrifices in overcoming significant challenges. He expressed hope for future state-backed financial aid initiatives for medical students and extended his gratitude to the university leadership and faculty for driving the educational mission forward.
\nMinister Al-Saadi emphasized that these student-led research projects must translate into actionable, real-world solutions that directly improve hospital emergency rooms and public healthcare delivery. He further noted that the advancement of scientific research is a primary milestone of national academic independence, calling for cross-sector collaboration to support research centers for national development.
\nSana\u2019a University Rector Prof. Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti highlighted the Faculty of Medicine\u2019s legacy as a national success story, noting that Sana\u2019a University consistently meets the country\u2019s healthcare demands by supplying public and private hospitals with highly qualified specialists. As evidence of this global caliber, he cited a recent success story of two Sana’a University medical alumni who successfully performed advanced cardiac catheterization procedures in the United States. “Our focus remains entirely on the competence and quality of our graduates,” Al-Bukhaiti stated. He urged the 730 remaining graduates\u2014out of an initial cohort of 1,200\u2014to embrace their roles as compassionate healthcare professionals, carrying forward the university\u2019s regional and international reputation.
\nDr. Mohammed Al-Shehari, the Dean and Conference Chair, welcomed the delegation, noting that the 56 featured studies represent a full year of rigorous, faculty-supervised methodological work targeting pressing healthcare issues in Yemeni society. Vice Conference Chair Prof. Adel Al-Amed added that the healthcare sector highly anticipates this graduating class, praising their ability to produce mature, professional research despite extraordinary national circumstances. Dr. Assem Al-Salahi, Vice Chair of the University Student Forum, delivered the valedictorian address, thanking the ministry, university leadership, and faculty.
\nThe event concluded with the presentation of honorary plaques to ministry officials, university executives, academic department chairs, and participating teaching hospitals for their continuous support of medical research. The delegation then toured the accompanying scientific exhibition, which features research posters, models, and briefs of the senior capstone projects.<\/h3>\n
