Faculty of Languages Hosts Workshop on Academic Performance Enhancement Through Student Feedback

Faculty of Languages – Sana’a University organized a training workshop titled “Developing Academic Performance in Light of Student Teaching Performance Evaluation” on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. The workshop saw the participation of 32 faculty members from various academic departments within the Faculty.
The workshop was led by Assoc. Prof. Abdulhamid Al-Shuja’a and Dr. Mujeeb Ali Qasim. They reviewed the key aspects and statements of the student teaching performance evaluation form with faculty members and assistants. Discussions focused on how to ensure these criteria are met and enhanced to improve the quality of the educational process and strengthen evaluative practices.
The workshop aimed to train participants on how to objectively interpret evaluation results and transform them into practical opportunities for academic and professional development. It also sought to link evaluations to performance improvement both inside and outside the classroom. Each participant was given the opportunity to formulate a personal plan outlining their strengths to be reinforced, areas needing development, and practical mechanisms to achieve this development.
The workshop primarily focused on four main themes:
- Defining the role and functions of universities in academic accreditation and quality assurance.
- The necessity of evaluating university professors’ performance to encourage continuous professional development.
- Introducing the main axes and pillars in evaluating university professors’ performance.
- The importance of involving students in the educational process as a tool for constructive feedback.
The workshop received significant engagement from participants, who expressed their benefit from its scientific content. They emphasized the importance of such workshops in developing their pedagogical skills and enhancing the outcomes of the educational process.
The workshop concluded with several recommendations, including:
- The need to create an electronic evaluation application, where student results are only released after they complete the evaluation of their course instructor.
- The necessity of distributing evaluation forms and course syllabi to students and professors at the beginning of each semester.
- Continuing to hold workshops and training courses that equip professors with fair and constructive evaluation techniques and guide them to consistently motivate students.
- Working on organizing workshops about teaching strategies and utilizing diverse interactive methods.
- Distributing course materials based on the professor’s specialization, experience, and abilities.
- Equipping classrooms with appropriate educational aids and devices.
- Adding office hours to the academic schedule and allocating wages for them.
