Program Aims
- Providing students with opportunities to to engage with various linguistic courses, enabling them to develop their linguistic knowledge and academic research skills in linguistics.
- Introducing students to the fundamental concepts of the academic discipline of linguistics, along with its methodologies and research paradigms.
- Enhancing students’ awareness and understanding of the nature, fields and subfields of linguistics and its interdisciplinary fields.
- Developing students’ skills in academic writing and enhancing their academic research capabilities in key transferable skills essential for conducting successful research.
- Fostering both students’ understanding of linguistics and instilling a critical awareness of its fields and subfields through the study of the various effective theories and approaches in language studies.
- Equipping students with appropriate research skills, allowing them to undertake small scale studies in linguistics following good ethical practice.
- Providing students with academic knowledge, theoretical concepts and transferable skills for lifelong learning.
Program Mission
To prepare well-trained postgraduates equipped with advanced academic knowledge and research skills in linguistics, by providing a stimulating and satisfying learning environment based on recent approaches, which would empower them to compete in postgraduate academic research and professions locally and regionally.

Admission Requirements for the Program:
To be considered for admission to the MA program in Linguistics, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Linguistics or English from a recognized university.
- Applicants must have achievedan accumulative average grade in the Bachelor’s Degreenot less than 65%.
- Applicants obliged to successfully pass both a written test and an oral interview conducted by the department.
- Applicants must fulfill the requirements of Sana’a University and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
