Mr. Yahia Mohammed Ahmed Hushaidan<\/strong> was awarded a PhD degreein Arabic Syntax and Morphology <\/strong>for his dissertation titled \u201cGrammatical Thought between Sibawayh and Al-Mubarred: A Historical Study of Issues and Foundations<\/strong>,\u201d<\/em>which was submitted tothe Department of Arabic Language, Faculty of Languages – Sana\u2019a University. The PhDdissertation defense was held on Monday, Dhu al-Hijjah6, 1446<\/strong>Hijri, corresponding to June 2, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>

The dissertation aimed to explore the grammatical thought of Sibawayh<\/em> and Al-Mubarrad<\/em>, highlighting methodological distinctions, points of divergence, and the developmental trajectory between their approaches. It further sought to uncover the underlying factors contributing to these developments and to illuminate Al-Mubarrad\u2019s contributions to the field of Arabic grammar.<\/p>

The study yielded several significant findings regarding the evolution of grammatical thought in the work of Al-Mubarrad. These include:<\/p>

  1. There was a transformation of grammatical reasoning, marked by a shift from an emphasis on the intrinsic nature of language toward a framework grounded in logic, rationalism, and philosophy.<\/li>
  2. There was an increased focus on grammatical reasoning. It gained prominence to the extent that it paralleled the attention afforded to grammatical rules themselves.<\/li>
  3. The concept of the grammatical agent (amil\u200e<\/em>) developed and expanded.It became increasingly central to syntactic analysis, with grammatical judgments progressively constructed on its basis.<\/li>
  4. There was a significant intensification of grammatical disputes, which reached their peak in the works of Al-Mubarrad.<\/li><\/ol>

    The researcher presented several recommendations in his dissertation, including the need to conduct further research on the grammatical contributions of grammarians situated between Sibawayh and Al-Mubarrad as well as their contributions to the study of meaning.<\/p>

    The dissertation defense was attended by a number of academics, researchers, students, interested participants, and the researcher’s colleagues.<\/p>
