Researcher<\/strong> Bara’ah Abdullah Abdullah Mohammed Al-Samawi<\/strong> was awarded a Master\u2019s Degreein Translation Studies <\/strong>with an average of Excellent and a grade of (95%) for her thesis titled: Exploring the Challenges of Translating World Bank-Related Financial Terms Encountered by Senior Translation Students at Sana\u2019a University<\/em><\/strong>,<\/em>which was submitted tothe Department of Translation, Faculty of Languages\u2013 Sana\u2019a University. The MA defense was held on Tuesday, July28, 2026\u200e\u200e.<\/strong><\/p>

The study aimed to investigate the challenges encountered by senior students in the Department of Translation when translating World Bank-related financial terms from English into Arabic. It also sought to identify the principal causes of these challenges and evaluate the quality of the students’ translations, as well as the translation strategies and techniques they employed.<\/p>

The findings revealed that translation students faced considerable challenges, particularly with regard to accuracy. The most common errors included mistranslation, omission, and the use of inaccurate terminology. Nevertheless, most of the translations demonstrated a satisfactory level of fluency, coherent expression, and readability. The study further found that the primary causes of these difficulties were students’ limited knowledge of finance, insufficient practical experience, and shortcomings in financial translation courses and training programs. It also emphasized that effective financial translation requires the appropriate application of translation strategies and techniques, particularly when dealing with specialized financial terminology that lacks direct Arabic equivalents.<\/p>

The researcher recommended redesigning translation curricula to ensure the systematic integration of specialized financial terminology, strengthening practical training through the use of authentic financial texts, and developing a specialized glossary of financial terms to enhance students’ financial lexical competence and improve the overall quality of financial translation.<\/p>

The thesis defense was attended by faculty members, researchers, students, andinterested participants as well as the researcher’s colleagues and family members.<\/p>
