Researcher Mohammed Mohsen Saleh Mohsen Al-Batri\u200e\u200e<\/strong> was awarded a PhD<\/strong> degree in Linguistics \u200e<\/strong>for his dissertation titled: The Qudam Hajjah Dialect: A Phonetic and Morphological Study<\/em><\/strong>, <\/em>which was submitted to the Department of Arabic Language, Faculty of Languages\u2013 Sana\u2019a University. The MA defense was held on Thursday, August 27, 2026<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>

The PhD Viva-Voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:<\/p>

  • Abbas Ali Mohammed Al-Suswa \u2013 Taiz University \u2013 External Examiner and Committee Chair.<\/li>
  • Prof. Khaled Abdul-Halim Al-Absi \u2013 Sana\u2019a University \u2013 Co-Supervisor.<\/li>
  • Ahmed Hassan Hassan Al-Arousi \u2013 Sana\u2019a University \u2013 Internal Examiner and Committee Member.<\/li><\/ul>

    The dissertation aimed to investigate the phonetic, phonological, and morphological structure of the Qudam Hajjah dialect; document its consonants, vowels, and phonological features; trace and computationally analyze the phonological phenomena associated with the dialect; and examine its derivational and inflectional systems and the changes they undergo.<\/p>

    The study concluded that, in terms of its phonetic and morphological structure, the Qudam Hajjah dialect constitutes an integrated linguistic system characterized by a high degree of flexibility in sound adaptation and word-form formation. This gives the dialect distinctive phonetic and morphological features that set it apart from neighboring linguistic environments and contribute to enriching the corpus of contemporary Arabic linguistics.<\/p>

    The study also demonstrated the importance of combining field research with laboratory-based investigation in analyzing linguistic phenomena and linking the physical properties of speech with their functional roles within the linguistic structure of the dialect. This approach enhances the understanding and systematic documentation of the characteristics of Yemeni dialects.<\/p>

    The researcher recommended expanding applied field and laboratory phonetic studies, harnessing modern technology in linguistic research, and making use of contemporary linguistic research methodologies, in addition to establishing a specialized database of Yemeni dialects.<\/p>

    He also called for compiling dictionaries documenting local vocabulary that has begun to disappear as a result of external cultural influences, particularly terminology associated with agriculture, crafts, and traditional occupations, thereby helping preserve an important aspect of Yemen\u2019s linguistic and cultural heritage.<\/p>

    The defense session was attended by a number of academics, researchers, and postgraduate students, as well as the researcher\u2019s colleagues and family members.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
