Faculty of Petroleum and Natural Resources | SU
Leadership, excellence, the house of expertise, and community service in the fields of earth sciences.
Preparing and equipping highly competent cadres with scientific expertise to keep pace with advancements in the field of environmental science, as well as professional skills to compete effectively in the labor market and meet the needs of society in various environmental sectors.
1. Discovering the Earth's resources in a manner consistent with sustainable development.
2. Equipping students with the technological skills that enable them to understand and apply modern technologies.
3. Developing students' scientific and applied capabilities through collaboration with applied scientific institutions.
4. Providing consulting services to the public and private sectors in various fields of geological specialization.
5. Developing the capabilities and skills of faculty members and their assistants to enhance the educational process.
6. Striving for excellence in the educational process and supporting and encouraging scientific research to contribute to solving societal problems.
The Department of Geology was established in 1978 as part of the Faculty of Science. It began offering Master's and Doctoral degrees in the late 1980s. In 2006, its name was changed to the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, with five specialized divisions. In conjunction with the establishment of the Faculty of Petroleum and Natural Resources in September 2019, the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences was transferred from the Faculty of Science to the Faculty of Petroleum and Natural Resources, under the name Department of Earth Sciences. The Master's program is designed so that graduates receive a Master of Science degree in Earth Sciences, with specializations in Economic Geology, Stratigraphy, Petroleum Geology, Hydrogeology, Geophysics, and Engineering Geology. This is achieved after completing two semesters of coursework, totaling 24 credit hours, followed by registration for a Master's thesis, comprising 6 credit hours, to complete the degree.
Leadership, excellence, the house of expertise, and community service in the fields of earth sciences
The mission of the master's program in Earth science is to continue a student's training in one of a broad range earth science disciplines and to prepare students for either a professional career or doctoral

Bachelor of Science in Earth Sciences, Master's Preparatory Program (Two Semesters)
This program, the PhD program in Earth Sciences, is designed to accommodate several undergraduate programs and their specializations, namely the Geological Sciences program, the Mineral Resources and Rocks program, and the Engineering Geology program.
Leadership, excellence, the house of expertise, and community service in the fields of environmental sciences.
Preparing researchers who have knowledge and experience following innovative and multiple approaches in their field of specialization to work in several fields, mainly as an academic or in scientific research, and as professional individuals specialized in the field of earth sciences.
1. To develop the researcher's critical and analytical problem-solving skills in Earth sciences, as well as their observation, analytical, and comprehension abilities to make appropriate decisions when needed.
2. To develop and enhance their writing skills, data analysis, and communication skills, which will strengthen their ability to integrate into the job market and manage projects.
3. To enrich the researcher's knowledge and understanding in the field of Earth sciences, enabling them to achieve results that contribute to the field and create a valuable database for other researchers to utilize and build upon.
4. To produce high-quality, scientifically valuable research that elevates academic work and motivates researchers to compete and excel.
5. To create a stimulating scientific environment and produce graduates who contribute to the job market with expertise that supports overall development and provides state institutions with skilled personnel.
