Mission

Preparing cadres with a scientific competence in order to keep up to date of developments in the field of environment, and a high professional capacity to compete in the market, and meet the needs of society in various sectors related to the environment.

Objectives

1. Providing state institutions with specialized cadres capable of participating effectively in monitoring and preserving the Yemeni environment and solving problems related to it.
2. Conducting environmental studies and research as well as providing consultations in this field to various relevant institutions and sectors.
3. Contribute in spreading environmental culture and awareness among various sectors of Yemeni society by various means.
4. Building academic and research bridges that enhance joint cooperation between the department and its corresponding departments locally, regionally and internationally.
5. Development of academic programs and scientific research for postgraduate students.

Department Academic Programs

Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Environmental Sciences

The department's postgraduate student obtains M.Sc. degree in environmental Science after completing two semester courses and passing 30 credit hours, then registering for a master's thesis of 6 credit hours, and complete it successfully. The assigned committee of preparing the master's program was keen to ensure that the postgraduate student obtains all sufficient practical and applied information and skills that make him able to conduct various environmental examinations. The knowledge and skills procured by the postgraduate student will qualify him to compete and succeed in gaining job opportunities in the environmental fields according to the international quality standards. The M.Sc. course in environmental science will also prepare postgraduate students to be fully qualified for enrolling in Ph.D. research programs.

2. Enhancing student capabilities necessary to preserve and protect the environment within the framework of the sustainable development approach.
3. Qualifying students to conduct scientific researches in environmental sciences, whether at the master's or doctoral level, efficiently and systematically.
4. Contribute to preparing cadres who can manage development projects and evaluate the environmental impacts of these projects in a way that preserves the surrounding environmental ecosystems.

Program Requirements

The department accepts applicants for registration in the M.Sc. program who has a bachelor's degree in one of the scientific disciplines (science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, etc.). They should also successfully pass the admission tests and personal interview, or any other admission conditions that set by Sana'a University.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Environmental Sciences

The Ph.D. Program in Environmental Sciences is designed to provide candidates with advanced knowledge, specialized research expertise, and practical skills across diverse environmental disciplines. The program aims to prepare highly qualified researchers capable of addressing complex environmental challenges, generating innovative solutions, and contributing to scientific advancement through high-quality research and publications. It equips graduates with the competencies required for leadership roles in academia, research institutions, and environmental sectors, in accordance with international quality standards.

Program Requirements

Admission to the Ph.D. program requires applicants to hold an M.Sc. degree from any Yemeni university or another recognized university, with a minimum overall grade of Very Good. In addition, the applicant's B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree specializations must be relevant to or equivalent to the Ph.D. program specialization.
