The Faculty of Science is one of the oldest and most well-established faculties at Sana'a University. Established in 1972, it was among the first faculties to lay the foundations of university education in Yemen. Since its establishment, the Faculty has been committed to preparing qualified scientific and technical specialists in the natural and mathematical sciences, thereby serving as a cornerstone of scientific research and technological development in the country.
The Faculty follows a rigorous academic system based on two semesters per academic year. The Bachelor's degree program extends over four academic years, comprising eight semesters. The curriculum is designed to provide students with a solid theoretical foundation together with advanced laboratory and practical skills. Students are required to successfully complete the prescribed credit-hour requirements to be awarded the degree.
Upon successfully completing the program requirements, students are awarded the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in their chosen specialization. The program qualifies graduates for careers in teaching, scientific research, laboratories, industrial institutions, oil and mining companies, and public and private organizations engaged in planning, statistics, environmental studies, and biodiversity. It also provides a solid foundation for pursuing postgraduate studies at the Master's and doctoral levels.
The Faculty of Science was awarded Full Institutional Academic Accreditation (Gold Level) on 2 March 2025 (corresponding to 2 Ramadan 1446 AH), in accordance with the Institutional Academic Accreditation Standards and the accompanying manuals and forms issued by the Council. The accreditation is valid for seven years, until March 2032.
Since its establishment in 1972, the Faculty of Science at Sana'a University has remained a leading academic and research institution dedicated to offering distinguished programs in the basic and applied sciences. Through its four-year, semester-based academic system, the Faculty continues to serve as a principal center for nurturing Yemen's scientific talent, awarding Bachelor's degrees that provide a strong foundation for knowledge, innovation, and sustainable development.
