Mr. Waleed Saleh Abdo Hasan Al-Jurbani\u00a0<\/strong>was awarded a PhD degree in the major of Renewable Energy Physics for his dissertation titled \u201cPerformance Analysis and Optimization of Wind Turbines Suitable for Some Locations in Yemen<\/strong>,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0which was submitted to the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science- Sana\u2019a University. The PhD dissertation defense was held on\u00a0Saturday, Dhu al-Hijjah 4, 1446\u00a0<\/strong>Hijri, corresponding to\u00a0May 31, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The PhD Viva-Voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Post-Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:<\/p>\n

This dissertation aimed to<\/strong>\u00a0evaluate the wind energy potential and economic feasibility for selected sites in Yemen, and identify suitable wind turbines for these locations.<\/p>\n

The dissertation presented several key findings, including:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Identifying the most appropriate and accurate numerical method for calculating Weibull parameters in some Yemeni sites.<\/li>\n
  2. Assessing the wind energy potential and economic feasibility in various locations across Yemen.<\/li>\n
  3. Selecting suitable turbines for 16 sites with high average annual wind speeds in the governorates of Saada, Al-Jawf, Amran, Sana\u2019a, Hodeidah, and Taiz.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    In his dissertation, Mr. Al-Jurbani concluded with several recommendations, such as:<\/strong><\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Continuing and expanding the study to cover all sites in Yemen.<\/li>\n
    2. Emphasizing the government\u2019s need to initiate the installation of some wind turbines, even small-capacity ones (ranging from 30-100 kW), in the locations identified by the study. This would serve as a practical trial for the study\u2019s findings, along with installing monitoring devices to measure wind speed and other necessary data for future, more detailed studies on wind energy potential and economic feasibility.<\/li>\n
    3. Recommending the diversification of electrical power sources, utilizing both wind energy and hybrid systems (wind + solar energy).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      The PhD dissertation<\/strong>\u00a0was examined and recommended by the Viva-Voce Committee for\u00a0acceptance<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0approval<\/strong>.\u00a0The PhD defense<\/strong>\u00a0was\u00a0attended<\/strong>\u00a0by a number of academics, researchers, interested students, the candidate\u2019s colleagues, and family members.<\/p>\n
