Master’s Degree Awarded to Mr. Tareq Mohammed Al-Houthi from Faculty of Dentistry

Sana’a, Yemen – May 15, 2025 – Mr. Tareq Mohammed Ali Hussein Al-Houthi was awarded a Master degree with an overall grade of (Excellent), in the major of Dentofacial Orthodontics, from the Department of Orthodontics, Pedodontics, and Preventive Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry – Sana’a University. His thesis, titled “The Relationship Between Maxillary Apical Base Size and Dental Crowding Using Cone-Beam Computed Tomography,” was successfully defended on Wednesday, Dhu al-Qa’dah 23, 1446 Hijri, corresponding to May 21, 2025.
The MA Viva-voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Post-Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following members:
- Main Supervisor: Prof. Fouad Al-Mutarib
- Internal Examiner and Chair: Prof. Ghamdan Al-Harazi
- External Examiner: Assoc. Prof. Yasser Thabet
The thesis aimed to investigate the relationship between the size of the maxillary apical base and dental crowding.
Key findings of the thesis include:
- A moderate negative correlation exists between the size of the maxillary apical base and dental crowding.
- No statistically significant association was found between tooth size and dental crowding.
- Dental arch perimeter was identified as the most significantly correlated factor with the occurrence of dental crowding.
In his recommendations, Mr. Al-Houthi offered several recommendations, including:
- Considering the size of the apical base of the jaw during orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Cautioning against routine jaw expansion for all cases of dental crowding, emphasizing the need for individual assessment of the jaw’s apical base.
The thesis was examined and recommended by the Viva-Voce Committee for acceptance and approval. The thesis defense was well-attended by a distinguished audience of academics, researchers, students, and interested individuals, alongside the researcher’s colleagues and family members.
