Minister of Higher Education & Scientific Research announces commencement of local institutional accreditation for Sana’a University with a view to gaining international accreditation

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Hussein Hazeb confirmed that Sana’a University has academic and physical infrastructure and achievement indicators that qualify it to be among the top-ranked universities in the world university rankings. In a meeting with Sana’a University Rector, Prof. Al-Qassim Mohammed Abass, Head of the Council for Accreditation & Quality Assurance, Dr. Ahmed Al-Haboob, and the Undersecretary for the Educational Affairs Sector, Dr. Ghaleb Al-Qanis, His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education & Scientific Research announced the commencement of steps to obtain the institutional accreditation of all faculties of Sana’a University in accordance with local accreditation standards with a view to gaining international accreditation. He pointed out that Sana’a University is in the vanguard of all public and private universities in Yemen, is alma mater of almost all leaders and officials of the state. He commended the role of the university leadership in bringing about a major change in the course of the educational and academic process under the exceptional circumstances that Yemen is going through because of the aggression and blockade.
He also pointed out that Sana’a University is of national value, having professionally qualified human, academic and physical infrastructure that qualify it for the global institutional and academic accreditation in accordance with international standards. At the same time, he noted that the role of the private sector is considered instrumental in supporting the government education sector, and contributing to meeting the needs and requirements of the market of quality disciplines.
The Rector of Sana’a University, Prof. Al-Qassim Mohammed Abass, stressed the importance of concerted efforts to overcome the difficulties the university faces. He pointed out that the university leadership has worked to bridge the gap that existed between the university, the Ministry and its institutions through the creation of a “Unified SAR” system and the development of the academic courses specifications in order to obtain academic accreditation. He also pointed out that the university is ready to obtain institutional and academic programs accreditation for all colleges due to the fact the university has sufficient academic, administrative and physical infrastructure that no other Yemeni university possesses.
Chairman of the Council for Accreditation & Quality Assurance, Prof. Ahmed Al-Haboob, confirmed the Council’s efforts to improve higher education by rendering assistance to the universities to implement the quality system of education as well as assisting them to obtain academic programs and institutional accreditation.
Prof. Al-Haboob explained that this step comes within the framework of the state’s direction to implement the National Vision to obtain institutional and academic programs accreditation in accordance with the standards of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME).
The meeting approved the assignment of a committee to implement the procedures for obtaining institutional accreditation for all faculties of Sana’a University and its academic programs. The meeting was attended by the Secretary-General of the Council for Accreditation & Quality Assurance, Dr. Mohammad Dhaifallah, the Council’s Training Director, Dr. Noman Fayrouz, the dean of the ADQA Center, Dr. Huda Al-Emad, the Director of Governmental Education in the Ministry, Mr. Mohammad Zuhra, and members of the Council for Accreditation & Quality Assurance.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
