Abstract
This study aimed to find out the level of integrating skills for the 21st century in physics curricula for secondary grades in the Republic of Yemen. To achieve this aim, the descriptive approach was used for the study. The sample of the study composed of physics textbooks for 10th, 11th, and 12th grades in Republic of Yemen (2021 edition).
The researcher developed a list of required skills for the 21st century that should be integrated in physics textbooks for 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. The list was submitted to a no of specialists in science and physics curricula to decide which skills are very important to be in the list. After, being assured the validity of the list, it was developed into a tool for analyzing physics textbooks. After being assured that the study tool has the acceptable levels of validity and reliability, it was used by the researcher to analyze physics textbooks. Data was collected, the SPSS program was used to analyze data. Orders and percentages were used to answer questions of the study. The study showed the following results:
- The level of integrating 21st century skills in 10th grade physics curriculum is %30.0. Such skills distributed in main three fields as follows:
- The field of Learning and Innovation Skills is 78.3%.
- The field of Information, Media, and Technology Skills is 9.0%.
- The field of Life and Career Skills is 12.6%.
- The level of integrating 21st century skills in 11th grade physics curriculum is %36.9. Such skills distributed in main three fields as follows:
- The field of Learning and Innovation Skills is 77.5%.
- The field of Information, Media, and Technology Skills is 9.3%.
- The field of Life and Career Skills is 13.2%.
- The level of integrating 21st century skills in 12th grade physics curriculum is %33.1. Such skills distributed in main three fields as follows:
- The field of Learning and Innovation Skills is 74.3%.
- The field of Information, Media, and Technology Skills is 10.6%.
- The field of Life and Career Skills is 15.1%.
- The level of integrating 21st century skills in physics curricula for secondary stage in Republic of Yemen, such skills distributed in main three fields as follows:
- The field of Learning and Innovation Skills is 76.7%.
- The field of Information, Media, and Technology Skills is 9.6%.
- The field of Life and Career Skills is 13.7%.
Based on the results, the study came up with recommendations
and some suggestions for further studies.
