Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment | SU
Established in 1989 as a branch of the Plant Production Department, the Department of Crop and Rangeland Sciences remained affiliated with it until 1996, when it became an independent department under the name "Department of Crop and Rangeland Sciences". In line with the academic development of the Faculty in 2020, the department was renamed the "Department of Crop Science and Plant Breeding", reflecting scientific advancement and the continuous development of academic programs. The department is a key academic unit within the Faculty and an essential pillar of the academic structure of the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment. It plays a central role in preparing highly qualified agricultural engineers equipped with advanced scientific knowledge and practical skills in field crop production and plant breeding, enabling them to compete effectively in the labor market and contribute to sustainable agricultural development.
Excelling and leading in education and scientific research within crop sciences and plant breeding, along with fostering an effective community partnership that ensures food security and a high rate of self-sufficiency in major food crops.
To qualify competent and highly skilled scientific cadres in the field of crop sciences and plant breeding by delivering outstanding educational programs, and disseminating applied research and studies that meet community needs to achieve sustainable agricultural development.
