Sana’a University’s Faculty of Agriculture, Food & Environment enhances practical learning for horticulture students with a valuable field trip focused on grape production.<\/strong><\/h3>

Sana’a, Yemen<\/strong> \u2013 In a concerted effort to reinforce the practical aspects of its curriculum, the Department of Horticulture and Its Techniques, at Faculty of Agriculture, Food & Environment – Sana’a University, organized an applied scientific field trip for its third and fourth-year female students. The excursion took place on Thursday, 28th August 2025, visiting Wadi Al-Ser \u2013 Bait Al-Nukhaif, and Rujam area in Bani Hushaish District, under the supervision of Eng. Tayseer Al-Sanahani.<\/h3>

The primary objective of this trip was to enable students to connect theoretical concepts with practical applications in grape production. This was achieved through visits to exemplary farms in regions renowned for viticulture, allowing students to observe current agricultural practices and learn about local agricultural heritage.<\/h3>

Key scientific topics covered during the trip included:<\/h3>

  • Agricultural operations and the various growth stages of grapevines.<\/h3><\/li>

  • Morphological (phenotypic) description of the plant.<\/h3><\/li>

  • Techniques for drying grapes to produce raisins.<\/h3><\/li>

  • Marketing challenges faced by grape producers.<\/h3><\/li>

  • Propagation methods: seeds, cuttings, and layering.<\/h3><\/li>

  • Training systems: pergolas (arbours), cordon, head-pruned, cane-pruned.<\/h3><\/li><\/ul>

    The students demonstrated exceptional scientific engagement, participating in insightful field discussions with local farmers. These farmers generously shared their expertise and experiences in grape cultivation, emphasizing the critical importance of continuous care for the plant to achieve a good yield, likening the grapevine to a child requiring constant nurturing.<\/h3>
