SANAA \u2013 Third-year students in the Department of Horticulture and its Techniques have completed a laboratory practical session focused on modern techniques for estimating Total Soluble Solids (Brix) and Titratable Acidity in fruit. This training is an essential component of the practical requirements for their current curriculum.
The session included the hands-on use of a Refractometer to measure the percentage of soluble solids (sugars), including the calibration of the device using standard solutions. In addition, students performed Acid-Base Titration using a sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution to determine the total acidity levels of the samples.
This activity enables students to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. By mastering these techniques, students enhance their skills in fruit quality assessment, determining ripeness stages, and evaluating suitability for commercial marketing or food processing\u2014key competencies aligned with the requirements of the agricultural and food industry labor markets.The practical session was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Elias Manea and Ms. Taysir Al-Sanhani, both of whom emphasized the vital role of applied activities in refining students’ technical skills and scientific proficiency.<\/h3>
