As part of the summer practical training program, the third day was dedicated to a field activity for the Plant Protection Department students within the Faculty greenhouses, supervised by Dr. Mohammed Raweh and Dr. Asmaa Al-Qubati.
The activity included visiting greenhouses cultivated with strawberry, cucumber, and tomato crops. Students identified the primary pests affecting these crops, including harmful insects and various plant diseases. The training also covered injury diagnosis, control strategies, and the types of pesticides used, along with their safe and effective application.
Furthermore, the session provided an overview of greenhouse irrigation systems and their role in enhancing plant growth and productivity, while explaining water management methods tailored to each crop’s needs.
In the practical application, focus was placed on snails as a significant pest affecting strawberries, following the observation of a heavy infestation during the visit. Snails feed on both leaves and fruits, leading to fruit deformation and reduced market quality, which necessitates the implementation of effective control programs.
This field visit contributed to strengthening the students’ applied skills, linking theoretical knowledge with practical experience in the field of plant protection to enhance their scientific and technical expertise.<\/h3>
