**SANA’A, Yemen** \u2014 Fourth-year students in the Department of Horticulture and Its Techniques at the Faculty of Agriculture, Food, and Environment participated in a hands-on laboratory session today, August 17, 2026, focusing on postharvest preservation techniques for cut flowers under the supervision of Eng. Elham Arraf.<\/h3>

The practical session was part of the required Postharvest Technology curriculum and focused on methods to maintain cut flower quality and delay senescence. Students evaluated sterilized aqueous solutions designed to extend the vase life and physiological durability of harvested blooms.<\/h3>

The exercise also highlighted the critical role of equipment sanitation and vessel hygiene. Students analyzed how specific chemical treatments suppress microbial growth, preventing vascular blockages that restrict water uptake and accelerate postharvest decay.<\/h3>

This practical training aligns with the department’s strategy to integrate applied laboratory work into its academic courses, equipping students with practical skills to minimize postharvest losses, improve product quality, and extend the commercial shelf life of horticultural crops.<\/h3>
