The study aimed to:
-
Identify the extent to which managers of Yemeni private-sector enterprises understand the concept, dimensions, and implementation mechanisms of social responsibility, and assess the contribution of these enterprises to human development within the framework of their social responsibility practices during the period 2015–2025.
The study yielded a number of key findings summarized as follows:
-
Yemeni private sector has specific features and constraints that limit its ability to contribute effectively to the development process.
-
A near-complete absence of social-responsibility culture was observed among managers of private-sector establishments as well as among officials of relevant government entities.
-
The contribution of Yemeni private-sector enterprises to improving indicators of sustainable human development, within the scope of their social-responsibility practices, was found to be limited.
-
Several obstacles were identified that restrict the ability of private-sector enterprises to play an effectively developmental role.
In light of these findings, the researcher recommended the following:
-
Enhancing the culture of social responsibility among managers of private-sector enterprises and relevant government officials, and clarifying its dimensions, domains, and importance.
-
Developing supportive and incentive-based government policies to strengthen private-sector growth and increase its developmental contributions.
-
Encouraging further research and studies related to social responsibility in private-sector enterprises.
The dissertation defense was attended by a number of academics, researchers, and specialists, students, colleagues, and the researcher’s family.
