PhD Degree Awarded to Mr. Mohammed Hassan Jufi in Islamic Jurisprudence and Foundations

Mr. Mohammed Hassan Abdullah Jufi was awarded a PhD degree in Islamic Jurisprudence and Foundations for his dissertation titled: Al-Bawariq Al-Yamaniyyah fi Masa’il Al-Fiqh Al-Marwiyyah by the Scholar Shaikh Al-Islam Mohammed ibn Ahmed ibn Abdulalbari Al-Ahdal (d. 1298 Hijri): A Critical Study and Investigation, which was submitted to the Department of Islamic Studies, Faculty of Arts and Humanities – Sana’a University. The dissertation defense was held on Sunday, February 1, 2026.

The dissertation aimed to:

Examine the scholarly contributions of Mohammed ibn Ahmed Abdulalbari Al-Ahdal and other scholars of the 13th Hijri century.

Highlight the author’s scholarly stature and demonstrate his distinguished authority in issuing fatwas.

Reveal the role of Yemeni scholars in the intellectual and jurisprudential revival of the 13th Hijri century.
The study yielded several key findings summarized as follows:

The research identified the author’s methodology in responding to judicial rulings submitted to him and documented how he advised certain judges to return to what he considered the correct position.

The study demonstrated the precision of the author’s style in formulating responses and the strength of his legal reasoning and evidentiary argumentation.

The study showed the diversity of approaches adopted by Mohammed ibn Ahmed Abdulalbari Al-Ahdal in addressing transmitted juristic texts within his fatwas.
In light of these findings, the researcher recommended the following:

Encouraging researchers, academics, and editors to undertake critical editions of classical heritage works, including the writings Mohammed ibn Ahmed Abdulalbari Al-Ahdal.

Devoting an independent scholarly study to the life and legacy of Mohammed ibn Ahmed Abdulalbari Al-Ahdal in light of his substantial body of writings.

Promoting further research and investigation into Yemeni intellectual heritage and facilitating its critical editing and publication for the benefit of scholars and
