Faculty of Arts & Humanities | SU
Founded in 2004, the Department of African Studies is the most recent of the departments at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Its establishment was due to the increasing need for academic research on the African continent, as it is characterized by a civilizational, cultural, economic, and political diversity. To address this need, the Department seeks to prepare scholars with an in-depth knowledge of the Continent in terms of its history, languages, civilizations, and its political, economic, and social aspects. Since it is a recently-created division, the Department strives to establish itself as an academically credible unit by widening the range of its educational concerns to fulfill its academic and development aims and raise awareness of the importance of the African dimension in our international relations.
