The Department of Arabic Language and Literature was founded in 1971, the same year as the inception of Sana’a University. Since then, the Dept. has dedicated its resources to ensure quality education, to conduct groundbreaking research studies, and to yield graduates with a high level of proficiency in the linguistic disciplines of Arabic and the diverse forms of literature.
To realize these aims, the Dept. seeks to equip its students with a strong knowledge of Arabic language and literary works and to develop their critical thinking and research skills to enable them to compete in the labor market and pursue their learning journey.
The Dept. also takes much care to ensure that students graduate with a linguistically and intellectually high proficiency as well as capability to make use of learning technologies, conduct academically sound research, engage properly in group work and discussions, and cherish Arabic language and its role in consolidating identity. In fact, since its inception, the Dept. has provided educational institutions as well as media and government agencies with highly qualified cadres, some of whom have held high academic, administrative, and leadership positions.
Worthy of mention is the fact that the Dept. has a constellation of highly qualified teaching staff, some of whom came from prestigious universities, and it is the presence of such great professors at the Dept. that actually ensures the provision of quality education, excellence, and constant development.
The Department strives to excel in the development of knowledge and research across the fields of literature, linguistics, and criticism.
