Founded in 1973, the Department of English Language and Literature is considered one of the oldest departments of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Since then, the Dept. has developed and expanded its learning programs to reach four programs (bachelor’s degree, GPA-Improvement Diploma, master’s degree, PhD degree) that offer quality education in English linguistics, English literature, American literature, literary criticism, comparative literature, and some courses on translation.
To excel in offering learning programs of high quality and carrying out research studies distinguished by novelty and capability of contributing to community development.
The Department of English Language and Literature is dedicated to providing quality educational programs that align with regional and international standards and enable the Department’s graduates to effectively contribute to national development utilizing their skills and abilities to satisfy the needs of the domestic and global labor market.
1. Contribute to the advancement of knowledge pertaining to English language and literature in Yemen.
2. Prepare English language and translation specialists who possess the expertise to fulfill the demands of the labor market and address the needs of the community.
3. Offer high-quality learning programs that provide quality education in English language, literature, and translation.
4. Enrich the cultural and intellectual domains of knowledge in order to contribute to national development.
5. Prepare research scholars capable of conducting studies of novelty and in conformity with ethical and methodological criteria for research.
