About the Faculty
Faculty of Arts & Humanities was inaugurated concurrently with the establishment of Sana’a University in 1970. Initially, the study of humanities was incorporated into the curriculum of the Faculty of Education, which admitted its inaugural class that same year, comprising a total of (64) male and female students, of whom (12) were enrolled in the Arts Division.
In 1971, a new Faculy was formed, encompassing the departments of Arts, Education, and Science. Subsequently, in 1973, Faculty of Arts & Humanities was formally established as an autonomous educational institution within Sana’a University. At its inception, the Faculty comprised five primary departments: Department of Arabic Language and Literature, Department of English Language and Literature, Department of History, Department of Geography, and Department of Social Sciences. The first class graduated in 1974, consisting of (9) nine students. Since that time, the Faculty has experienced substantial growth and development, expanding its academic offerings and departmental structure to currently include thirteen distinct majors. The most recent addition is the “Department of African Studies”, which commenced operations in 2024.
In response to contemporary digital advancements, the Faculty has effectively modernized its administrative processes, notably by implementing the SAR System for the issuance of graduate documents over the past five years (2020-2024), thereby establishing itself as a leader in this domain within Sana’a University.
These accomplishments have culminated in the Faculty of Arts & Humanities achieving full institutional accreditation (Diamond) for the year 1446 Hijri/2025, as awarded by the Academic Accreditation Council. This accolade is indicative of the Faculty’s commitment to academic and administrative excellence.
Furthermore, the Faculty has broadened its scope beyond undergraduate education by introducing postgraduate programs, including Diplomas, MA Degrees, and PhD Studies across various disciplines within the arts and humanities. This expansion significantly enhances the Faculty’s role in cultivating qualified academic and research professionals dedicated to serving the community.
