Faculty of Arts & Humanities | SU
The Social Work Department was initiated in 2003 as a division within the Department of Sociology. In 2007, it was officially recognized as an autonomous department within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. With the provision of social services being a major concern of the Department, learning programs (undergraduate and postgraduate) of high quality have been professionally designed to provide the Department’s graduates with the required knowledge and practical experiences in social work that can enable them to professionally and scientifically analyze and address social problems on all levels (individuals, groups, and society as a whole). Graduates can thus land jobs as social workers at society organizations as well as academic, health, and service institutions while pursuing their postgraduate studies and contributing to development and community service.
The Social Work Department aspires to be a leading authority on social work education. It seeks to offer programs that align with the highest academic standards and integrate both theoretical and practical knowledge, equipping graduates with the core professional competencies essential for success in social work practice.
The Department of Social Work is dedicated to preparing professionals who are well-equipped with modern social work knowledge, skills, and practical experiences. This encompasses proficiency in information management, critical thinking, teamwork, research, and communication, with a focus on their application in the realm of social work. The Department is committed to contributing to the advancement and dissemination of social knowledge and services within Yemeni society, including providing consultations, training programs, and direct social services to both individuals and institutions across Yemen.
