Faculty of Arts & Humanities | SU
The Department of Sociology was established in 1970 as one of the first departments at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Given the nature of the field of study the Department is concerned with, such issues as social structures and phenomena, development, and social change are approached from a sociological perspective. Among the goals of the Department is preparing research scholars with knowledge and research methodologies and skills necessary for analysis of social phenomena and conducting field research. To this end, undergraduate and postgraduate learning programs have been professionally designed to offer high-quality education in the field of sociology. Our learning programs also enable students to employ quantitative and qualitative research methods to produce and extend sociological knowledge and contribute to efforts aimed at addressing societal issues and decision-making. Prospective graduates will thus stand a great chance of landing jobs in relevant government institutions, research centers, domestic and international organizations, and development and consulting agencies.
We aspire to hold a prestigious standing in Yemen and across the Arab World so as to be a leading center that can attract students interested in acquiring knowledge of high quality in the field of sociology and that can help satisfy the needs of community institutions.
We seek to excel in offering educational, research, and consulting services in the field of sociology that can help meet the needs of the community and the labor market. To this end, we strive to prepare specialized cadres and enable students to acquire and utilize sociological knowledge as well as research methodologies and skills to contribute to community development and services through conducting research studies and offering consultations to the diverse community agencies. We can thus help promote and upgrade education in such a way that helps keep pace with knowledge developments in the field of sociology and its diverse disciplines.
