Public MA Viva-Voce Examination of Ms. Fadia Ismail Abdullah Zayed, from the Department Social Work, Faculty of Arts & Humanities – Sana’a University<\/h3>\n

Ms. Fadia Ismail Abdullah Zayed, has been awarded her MA degree with distinction, achieving a remarkable grade of 91%, majoring in Individual Service form the Department Social Work, Faculty of Arts & Humanities – Sana’a University. Her thesis, titled “The Impact of Social Media on Family Relationships from the Perspective of Social Work: A Field Study,” was successfully defended on Saturday, 28 Jumada al-Awwal 1446 Hijri, corresponding to November 30, 2024.<\/h3>\n

The Viva-Voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Post-Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:
\n1. Prof. Mohammad Saeed Al-Kamel, External Examiner, Yemeni Center for Studies and Research, Chair.
\n2. Prof. Sukina Ahmed Hashem, Main Supervisor, Sana’a University, Member.
\n3. Dr. Fahd Mohammad Al-Ahmadi – Internal Examiner, Sana’a University, Member.<\/h3>\n

The primary objective of the research was to investigate the motivations behind social media usage among family members and to analyze both the positive and negative impacts of these platforms on familial relationships. The findings revealed that (74.67%) of the study participants reported experiencing various positive effects of social media on family dynamics. The majority of respondents indicated that they extensively utilize social media for communication with family members, fostering family culture, engaging in discussions about familial issues, and staying informed about relevant local and global events.<\/h3>\n

Conversely, the study identified several detrimental effects associated with social media use within families, including adverse impacts on the physical and psychological well-being of family members, cultural disintegration, loss of children, breaches of privacy, and other negative consequences stemming from improper usage of these platforms.<\/h3>\n

In her thesis, Zayed proposed several recommendations aimed at promoting awareness and education regarding the safe and appropriate use of social media. These include enhancing parental oversight and monitoring of children’s social media activities, advising parents on effective guidance strategies that avoid punitive measures, and organizing workshops and seminars designed to educate families on managing social media usage within the home. Suggested practices include designating specific areas for internet access and implementing a policy of disconnecting from the internet before bedtime.<\/h3>\n
