In an effort to preserve Yemen’s cultural heritage, the Museum of Archaeology and Tourism at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Sana’a University, recently completed the second phase of sterilizing its preserved mummies. This is part of a quarterly program to mitigate biological decay and deterioration.
\nThe process included preparing specialized chemical sterilizers, cleaning the display cases both inside and out, and sanitizing the surrounding environment. These measures are designed to protect the rare artifacts, which showcase the ingenuity of ancient Yemenis in medicine and mummification. The ancestors pioneered advanced techniques using natural, plant-based materials to preserve bodies, driven by their belief in an afterlife and immortality. This demonstrates a level of civilized awareness on par with other ancient civilizations, such as those in the Nile Valley.
\nThe Faculty confirmed that these efforts are part of its academic and research commitment to safeguarding national heritage and highlighting the contributions of ancient Yemenis to human history.
