The program addresses the needs of the labor market and society by qualifying researchers and teachers of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) to resolve English-language-related challenges. It provides research consultancy on English language applications and ESP instruction, while also fostering the capabilities of researchers in the field of English for General Purposes (EGP). These activities have been ongoing since the 1990s, with the program having graduated more than twenty-two batches.

Mission

Aims

The program aims at:
1- Expanding graduate students' knowledge regarding the nature of the English language and its associated skills; linguistic theories concerning its structure (such as phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics); aspects related to its application, acquisition, curriculum development, and teaching methodologies as a foreign language; and its uses in both the classroom and public life.
2- Enhancing students' capabilities in linguistic deduction, analysis, and critique—as well as in linguistic and literary communication—regarding curriculum development, teaching, and other applications of English as a foreign language, thereby facilitating its more effective teaching and learning.
3- Enhancing the expertise and skills of research-oriented postgraduate students regarding language-related issues and their practical applications—such as general teaching or teaching for specific purposes (at university or general education levels, and across diverse settings)—as well as curriculum design. This aims to enable them to provide linguistic consultancy to research centers focused on English as a foreign language, as well as those specializing in language studies, pedagogy, and curriculum development, thereby allowing them to address related challenges through a systematic, scientific approach.
