Researcher Hind Mohammed Mohammed Abdullah Al-Eryani has been awarded a Master\u2019s degree with distinction in International Development from the Inclusive Development Research Center at Sana\u2019a University. Her thesis, titled \u201cThe Role of Social Media in Addressing Social Issues and Its Relationship to the Integration of Yemeni Women in Development,\u201d was successfully defended on Wednesday, December 25, 2024.<\/p>\n

The defense committee included Dr. Ali Ahmed Al-Yazidi Al-Hawari as the external examiner and committee chair, Dr. Saleh Mohammed Ali Homaid as the main supervisor and committee member, and Dr. Mutahar Ali Ali Aqeedah as the internal examiner and committee member.<\/p>\n

The study focused on the role of social media platforms, specifically Facebook and Twitter, in addressing social issues and promoting the integration of Yemeni women into development initiatives. Among the key findings, the study highlighted that Yemeni women primarily use social media for self-development, learning, staying informed, connecting with friends and family, and skill-building. The societal changes attributed to social media\u2019s influence included improved employment and education opportunities for women, increased awareness of women\u2019s rights, shifts in traditional perceptions of women\u2019s roles, and enhanced political participation. Yemeni women perceived social media as a tool for promoting gender justice.<\/p>\n

The study also identified essential steps to enhance women’s roles in sustainable development, such as launching awareness and educational programs, providing training on environmental issues, and monitoring and preventing cyberbullying. The impact of social media in raising awareness about integrating women into development was rated as moderate to significant.<\/p>\n

In her recommendations, the researcher emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the positive and negative aspects of social media through workshops, lectures, and media campaigns, aiming to maximize benefits and mitigate drawbacks. She called for increased educational opportunities and awareness programs to empower women in sustainable development. Additionally, she urged media outlets to launch campaigns that improve societal perceptions of women, promote their roles in various fields, and challenge negative cultural attitudes toward women\u2019s integration into development. The study also recommended focusing on creating social media content that highlights women’s contributions to development and establishing tailored training programs to enhance Yemeni women\u2019s opportunities in the labor market.<\/p>\n

The defense was attended by academics, researchers, students, and interested individuals, along with Al-Eryani\u2019s colleagues and family members.<\/p>\n
