Researcher Rehab Abdu Abdulaziz Al-Dhubhani has been awarded her Master’s degree with distinction in International Development Studies from the Inclusive Development Research Center at Sana’a University. Her thesis, titled “The Role of Caricature Art in Portraying Poverty Issues in YEMENI Social Reality,” was successfully defended on Tuesday, February 25, 2025.<\/p>\n

The examination committee comprised esteemed members: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mutaher Ali Aqeedah served as the internal examiner and chair; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Munir Al-Hamiri acted as an internal examiner and member; and Prof. Dr. Saleh Mohammed Hamid served as a co-supervisor and member.<\/p>\n

The research aimed to explore the role of cartoon art in addressing issues of poverty within the context of Yemeni social reality. The findings highlighted various aspects of poverty, emphasizing the cultural and popular heritage of Yemen. The family head emerged as a prominent model representing the most affected demographic, while also serving as a social symbol for all impoverished Yemenis. Additionally, economic indicators were identified as the most frequently discussed factor contributing to the deterioration of living conditions across all levels.<\/p>\n

In her thesis, Rehab offered several key recommendations, including conducting semiological studies on cartoon art related to humanitarian, social, or political issues to serve as a reference for interested scholars and practitioners in the arts. She advocated for enhancing the use of cartoons as a medium to stimulate dialogue and discussion around societal issues, encouraging resolution by relevant authorities. Furthermore, she emphasized the importance of fostering collaboration between cartoonists and media outlets to widely disseminate their work, which could significantly increase the impact of cartoons and reach a larger audience.<\/p>\n

The thesis defense was attended by a diverse audience, including academics, researchers, students, and other interested individuals, alongside colleagues and family members of the researcher.<\/p>\n
