Migration and Refugee Studies Center Organizes Moot Court for Law Students Sana’a University – September 30, 2025

Under the auspices of Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, President of Sana’a University, the Migration, Refugee, and IDP Studies Center at the University organized today a specialized training event featuring a moot court on migration and asylum cases. The activity involved students from the Faculty of Sharia and Law and was attended by faculty members as well as legal and humanitarian experts.
The moot court aimed to provide students with practical experience in judicial procedures and litigation mechanisms. It also sought to raise awareness of issues related to asylum, displacement, and human rights, thereby linking academic study with real-world practice.
During the proceedings, students assumed the roles of judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, witnesses, and defendants, presenting arguments and evidence within a simulated case scenario inspired by real-life cases, ultimately delivering a mock judgment that reflected the principles of justice.
Prof. Ahmed Ali Al-Emad, Director of the Center, emphasized, “The moot court represents one of the most effective modern educational methods, enabling students to simulate real legal environments, improve their professional skills, and prepare for careers in fields related to human rights and international humanitarian law.” He praised the students’ outstanding performance, noting that the level they demonstrated “would usually require months of training to achieve,” and described their work as “a legal artwork of which we are all proud.”
At the end of the event, Prof. Mohammed Saad Najad, the Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law, expressed his gratitude to the Center’s administration for organizing such activities. He affirmed that such activities contribute to promoting a culture of justice and human rights and highlight the pioneering role of the Center at Sana’a University in this field.
