Master’s Degree Awarded to Ms. Mayada Mujahid Mohammed Hussein in Microbiology

Ms. Mayada Mujahid Mohammed Hussein Al-Adhli was awarded a Master’s Degree in Microbiology with an average of Excellent and a grade of (95) for her thesis titled: Biocontrol Control of Some Pathogenic Bacteria by Certain Bacteria Isolated from Soil in Different Sites in Sana’a City, Yemen, which was submitted to the Department of Life Sciences, Faculty of Science – Sana’a University. The MA defense was held on Thursday, December 25, 2025.
The MA Viva-voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:
| # | Committee Members | Designation | Position |
| 1 | Prof. Ibtisam Hassan Al-Hamzi | Internal Examiner | Chair |
| 2 | Prof. Abdulrahman Abdullah Humaid | Main Supervisor | Member |
| 3 | Assoc. Prof. Waddah Hassan Idris | External Examiner | Member |
The study aimed to isolate and identify soil bacteria, measure the effectiveness of their extracts against antibiotic-resistant pathogenic bacteria, and analyze the compounds produced by soil bacteria using GC-MS technology.
The study revealed that several soil-isolated bacteria exhibit antibiotic-like activity and demonstrate effective inhibition of pathogenic bacteria. It also identified and characterized the chemical composition and internal structure of the bioactive compounds produced by these soil bacteria.
In light of these findings, the researcher recommended:
- Identifying, isolating, and characterizing soil microbial content, benefiting from microbial metabolites, promoting the rational use of antibiotics, avoiding excessive antibiotic consumption, and shifting toward the development of antibiotics derived from natural sources.
The defense session was attended by a number of academics, researchers, students, colleagues, and the researcher’s family.
