Master’s Degree Awarded to Mr. Adel Saleh Mohammed in Curricula and Methods of Teaching English

Mr. Adel Saleh Mohammed Saleh Ghaithan was awarded a Master’s degree in Curricula and Methods of Teaching English with an average of (Excellent) and a grade of (95%) for his thesis titled: The Impact of Social and Economic Conditions on the Academic Achievement of English Language Students at the Faculty of Education – Sana’a University, which was submitted to the Faculty of Education – Sana’a University. The MA defense was held on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
The MA Viva-voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:

The Study primarily aimed to examine the effect of social and economic conditions on the academic performance of students in the Department of English at the Faculty of Education, Sana’a University.
The Study yielded the following key findings:
- There is a significant correlation between students’ social and economic conditions and their academic achievement.
- The influence of economic factors was found to be less pronounced compared to the impact of social factors on students’ performance.
The researcher concluded his thesis with the following recommendations:
- Encouraging students to use social media platforms to practice English language skills.
- Organizing extracurricular and social activities to foster English communication skills.
- Expanding financial aid programs and scholarships to support low-income students.
- Establishing specialized centers equipped with computers, internet access, and English learning materials.
- Providing psychological and motivational support to students facing academic challenges due to social and economic circumstances.
- Calling upon educational institutions to conduct regular workshops and seminars for parents to raise awareness about the importance of social and financial support in improving students’ academic success.
The defense was attended by a number of academics, researchers, and specialists, along with the researcher’s colleagues and family members.
