PhD Degree Awarded to Ms. Naseem Ali Ahmed in English Language Curriculum and Teaching Methods

Ms. Naseem Ali Ahmed Qaed Al-Quaafi was awarded a PhD degree in English Language Curriculum and Teaching Methods for her dissertation titled: The Effect of the Flipped Classroom Strategy on Secondary School Students’ Motivation, Attitudes, and Achievement in the English Course in Yemen, which was submitted to Faculty of Education – Sana’a University. The dissertation defense was held on Thursday, October 30, 2025.
The PhD Viva-Voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:

The dissertation aimed primarily to investigate the effect of applying the flipped classroom strategy on the motivation, attitudes, and academic achievement of tenth-grade female students in English at Al-Zahraa Secondary School for Girls in Hajjah Governorate.
The findings of the study revealed that:
- The use of the flipped classroom strategy had a significant positive effect on the tenth-grade students’ English achievement levels.
- The students demonstrated higher motivation to learn English language skills and developed positive attitudes toward the use of the flipped classroom strategy in learning English.
In light of these findings, the researcher recommended the following:
- Implementing the flipped classroom strategy more broadly to enhance secondary students’ motivation, attitudes, and achievement in English.
- Conducting further research to explore the effectiveness of the flipped classroom strategy in developing other English language skills and in different subject areas.
The dissertation defense was attended by a number of academics, researchers, specialists, students, colleagues, and the researcher’s family.
