PhD Degree Awarded to Mr. Abdulrahman Dahesh in Educational Administration and Planning

Mr. Abdulrahman Mohammed Ahmed Dahesh was awarded a PhD degree in Educational Administration and Planning for his dissertation titled: Designing a Training Program to Develop the Competencies of Academic and Administrative Leaders in Yemeni Universities in Light of Sustainable Development Dimensions, which was submitted to the Department of Educational Administration and Planning, Faculty of Education – Sana’a University. The dissertation defense was held on Sunday, October 3, 2025.
The PhD Viva-Voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:

The dissertation primarily aimed to:
- Examine the current status of sustainable development dimensions in Yemeni universities.
- Identify the training needs of academic and administrative leaders.
- Develop a comprehensive list of sustainability competencies and design a training program to enhance academic and administrative competencies among university leaders in Yemen.
The main findings of the study revealed that:
- The overall level of practicing sustainable development competencies in Yemeni universities reached 61%, indicating a moderate level of performance.
- The degree of need for sustainability competencies among academic and administrative leaders in Yemeni universities was rated very high.
In light of these findings, the researcher recommended the following:
- Activating the role of universities in achieving the dimensions of sustainable development.
- Establishing green, sustainable university environment (Green Campus).
- Developing sustainability competencies among university leaders.
- Encouraging the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research to adopt sustainability competencies within professional development and training programs.
The dissertation defense was attended by a number of academics, researchers, specialists, students, colleagues, and the researcher’s family.
