Master’s Degree Awarded to Ms. Alaa Abdulrahman in Clinical Restorative Dentistry

Ms. Alaa Abdulrahman Badri Abdulmukhtar was awarded a Master’s degree in Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry–Clinical Restorative Dentistry for her thesis titled: Effectiveness of Laser in Combination with Silver Diamine Fluoride in the Management of Tooth Hypersensitivity among a Group of Yemenis in Sana’a City, which was submitted to the Faculty of Dentistry – Sana’a University. The MA defense was held on Monday, October 27, 2025.
The MA Viva-voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:
| # | Committee Members | Designation | Position |
| 1 | Assoc. Prof. Mohsen Ali Yahya Al-Hamzi | Internal Examiner | Chair |
| 2 | Prof. Abdulwahab Ismail Mohammed Al-Kholani | Main Supervisor | Member |
| 3 | Assoc. Prof. Fadel Ali Abdullah Al-Sanbani | External Examiner | Member |
The thesis aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of combining diode laser therapy with silver diamine fluoride in the treatment of dentin hypersensitivity.
The study yielded a number of key findings summarized as follows:
- The combination of silver diamine fluoride and diode laser proved effective in reducing tooth hypersensitivity.
- A sustained and significant improvement was observed over a three-month follow-up period.
- The approach showed statistically significant differences in reducing hypersensitivity among patients of both genders.
Based on the findings, the researcher recommended:
- Conducting further research to assess the long-term stability of the positive results obtained.
- Conducting additional studies on larger samples covering different ages, genders, and population groups.
- Providing training for dentists on the combined use of diode laser and silver diamine fluoride.
The defense session was attended by a number of academics, researchers, and interested participants, colleagues and the researcher’s family members.
