Master’s Degree Awarded to Ms. Ferial Musleh Naji in Psychological and Educational Counseling

Ms. Ferial Musleh Mohammed Naji was awarded a Master’s Degree in Psychological and Educational Counseling with an average of excellent and a grade of (95) for her thesis titled: Psychosocial Adjustment and Its Relationship to Self-Esteem among Blind Adolescents in the Capital Secretariat – Sana’a, which was submitted to the Faculty of Education – Sana’a University. The MA defense was held on Thursday, January 1, 2026.
The MA Viva-voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:

The study aimed to:
- Identify the levels of psychosocial adjustment and self-esteem among blind adolescents in the Capital Secretariat– Sana’a.
- Examine the relationship between psychosocial adjustment and self-esteem.
- Determine whether statistically significant differences existed in these variables attributable to the following factors: students’ educational level (Primary vs. high school), degree of blindness (total vs. partial), and time of onset of blindness (congenital vs. acquired), parents’ educational level.
The study yielded a number of key findings summarized as follows:
- Blind adolescents in the Capital Secretariat – Sana’a demonstrated high levels (above the hypothetical mean) of both psychosocial adjustment and self-esteem.
- Psychosocial adjustment correlated positively and significantly with self-esteem.
- No statistically significant differences appeared in psychosocial adjustment or self-esteem attributable to educational level, degree of blindness, time of onset of blindness, or parents’ educational level.
In light of these findings, the researcher recommended:
- Developing and implementing counseling and rehabilitation programs specifically designed for blind adolescents.
- Designing and applying social skills curricula to enhance social adjustment and build self-confidence, with particular emphasis on non-verbal communication skills.
- Pursuing several directions for future research in light of the study’s results.
The defense session was attended by a number of academics, researchers, students, colleagues, and the researcher’s family.
