Master’s Degree Awarded to Ms. Dhikra Ahmed Al-Sayaghi in Food Science and Nutrition

Ms. Dhikra Ahmed Hussein Al-Sayaghi was awarded a Master’s Degree in Food Science and Nutrition for her thesis titled: Effect of Low-Carbohydrate Ketogenic Diet on Weight Loss among Overweight and Obese Women, which was submitted to the Department of Food Science and Nutrition, Faculty of Agriculture, Food, and Environment – Sana’a University. The MA defense was held on Sunday, December 28, 2025.
The MA Viva-voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:

The study aimed to investigate the effect of the ketogenic diet on weight loss among overweight and obese women, and to compare its effectiveness with that of a standard diet.
The study yielded a number of key findings summarized as follows:
- The ketogenic diet proved more effective in promoting weight loss.
- It had a positive effect on reducing blood glucose levels in individuals with type 2 diabetes.
- The ketogenic diet contributed to improved insulin sensitivity.
In light of the findings, the researcher recommended:
- Conducting separate studies for each study variable with a larger sample size and over a longer duration.
- Supporting and encouraging such research, given its significant benefits to public health and the community.
The defense session was attended by a number of academics, researchers, students, colleagues, and the researcher’s family.
