PhD Degree Awarded to Ms. Naziha Mohammed Al-Sufi in English Language Curriculum and Teaching Methods

Ms. Naziha Mohammed Abdullah Al-Sufi was awarded a PhD degree in English Language Curriculum and Teaching Method for her dissertation titled: The Effectiveness Of Using Mobile Phones In Developing English Writing Skills By Yemeni EFL University Students And Their Attitudes Towards Them, which was submitted to the Department of English Language Curriculum and Teaching Methods, Faculty of Education – Sana’a University. The dissertation defense was held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.
The PhD Viva-Voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:

The study aimed to
- Investigate the effectiveness of using mobile phones in developing English writing skills among Yemeni EFL university students studying English as a foreign language.
- Identify Yemeni EFL university students’ attitudes towards the use of mobile phones in learning writing skills.
The study yielded several key findings summarized as follows:
- Statistically significant differences were detected between the mean scores of the experimental group in the pre‑ and post‑tests, favoring the post‑test results.
- Statistically significant differences were also observed between the post‑test mean scores of the experimental and control groups, favoring the experimental group that learned writing skills using mobile phones.
In the light of these findings, the researcher recommended:
- Using mobile phones in teaching English writing skills to enhance students’ achievement, enable them to apply these skills, and foster their positive attitudes towards such learning tools.
The dissertation defense was attended by a number of academics, researchers, and specialists, students, colleagues, and the researcher’s family.
