Master’s Degree Awarded to Mr. Ahmed Mohammed Yahya Hamed in Political Science

Mr. Ahmed Mohammed Yahya Hamed was awarded a Master’s Degree in Political Science with an average of excellent (first-class honors) and a grade of (95) for his thesis titled: The Impact of U.S. Foreign Policy on Yemen’s National Security, which was submitted to the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Commerce and Economics – Sana’a University. The MA defense was held on Sunday, Sha’ban 20, 1447 Hijri, corresponding to February 8, 2026.
The MA Viva-voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:

The study aimed to analyze the impact of U.S. foreign policy on Yemen’s national security, encompassing its military, political, economic, cultural, and social dimensions during the period (2001–2025).
It examined the determinants of U.S. foreign policy, the nature of its interests and strategies in the Arab region, and its tools and frameworks toward Yemen. The research also clarified the concept, dimensions of Yemeni national security, and diagnosed its associated challenges in light of these policies.
The importance of the study lies in its focus on a period marked by significant political, military, economic, and social transformations, addressing an issue of considerable concern to academic and political elites.
The researcher employed a national interest approach, a case study methodology, and content analysis to interpret selected official statements and positions related to events during the study period.
The study concluded that U.S. foreign policy has had multiple effects on various dimensions of Yemen’s national security. It addressed:
- The repercussions of military and security developments within the country.
- The impact of political transformations on national decision-making.
- The economic implications of policies and reforms implemented during the study period.
- The social and cultural consequences accompanying prolonged conflict and transitions, including their effects on social cohesion and national identity.
- The challenges faced by the education sector during these phases.
At the end of the MA thesis defense, the Viva-voce Committee recommended that the thesis be printed and published at the university’s expense and exchanged with other universities.
The defense session was attended by a number of presidents of public and private universities, academics, students, and researchers at Sana’a University, along with the researcher’s colleagues and relatives.
