PhD Degree Awarded to Mr. Waheeb Abdullah Mahfouz in Analytical Chemistry

Mr. Waheeb Abdullah Mahfouz bin Furaijan was awarded a PhD degree in Analytical Chemistry for his dissertation titled: An Environmental Chemical Study of Yemeni Sesame Oil Varieties and Biodiesel Production, which was submitted to the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science – Sana’a University. The dissertation defense was held on Saturday, February 15, 2026.

The PhD Viva-Voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:

The dissertation aimed to:
- Study the physical and chemical properties of soil and sesame oil, and produce biodiesel from sesame oil.
- Examine the physical and chemical properties of the produced biodiesel.
The study yielded several key findings summarized as follows:
- The physical and chemical properties of soil, sesame oil, and biodiesel were within internationally accepted standards.
In light of these findings, the researcher recommended the following:
- Providing sesame seeds at lower prices.
- Assessing the environmental impact of sesame farms for biodiesel production.
- Conducting cost analysis to evaluate the economic feasibility of producing biodiesel from sesame oil.
The dissertation defense was attended by a number of academics, researchers, and specialists, students, colleagues, and the researcher’s family.
