PhD Degree Awarded to Ms. Shatha Tariq Al-Absi in English Language

Ms. Shatha Tariq Mohammed Taresh Al-Absi was awarded a PhD degree in English Language for her dissertation titled: The Impact of Using Infographics on Improving Tenth-Grade Learners’ Speaking and Writing Skills in English Language at Hodeida Governorate and Their Attitudes Toward them, which was submitted to the Department of English, Faculty of Education – Sana’a University. The dissertation defense was held on Thursday, 16 Ramadan 1447 Hijri, corresponding to March 5, 2026.
The PhD Viva-Voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following:

The dissertation aimed to:
- Examine the effect of using infographics (visual information) on improving the speaking and writing skills of tenth-grade students in English language classes in Hodeida Governorate, and to identify students’ attitudes toward using this instructional approach in the learning process..
The study yielded several key findings summarized as follows:
- The results revealed statistically significant differences at the level of (0.05) in the mean scores of the post-test for both speaking and writing skills in favor of the experimental group.
- The findings also indicated a positive improvement in students’ attitudes toward the use of infographics.
- Statistically significant differences were recorded in most dimensions of the attitude scale, reflecting learners’ positive perception of this instructional method.
In light of these findings, the researcher recommended the following:
- Encouraging English language teachers and curriculum developers to integrate infographics into classroom teaching.
- Promoting the use of visual learning tools to support more effective English language learning and to motivate students’ engagement in the learning process.
The dissertation defense was attended by a number of academics, researchers, and specialists, students, colleagues, and the researcher’s family.
