Mr. Ahmed Mohammed Ahmed Al Kaina’ay<\/strong> was awarded a PhD degree in the major of Translation Studies for his dissertation titled, \u201cAn Analytical Study of the Ideology Effects in the Translation of Yemeni Political News<\/strong>,\u201d<\/em> which was submitted to Department of English Language, Faculty of Languages – Sana\u2019a University. The PhD dissertation defense was held on Thursday, September 18, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The PhD Viva-Voce Committee, which was formed based on a resolution issued by the Post-Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Council, consisted of the following members:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The dissertation aimed to<\/strong> identify the nature of ideological manipulation<\/strong> in the translation of Yemeni political news and its impact on misleading public opinion.<\/p>\n

The dissertation <\/strong>reached several important findings<\/strong>, the most significant of which are:<\/p>\n

  • Ideological Bias:<\/strong> Translators exhibit ideological bias when translating political discourse, particularly in the linguistic representation of events and individuals, with the aim of distorting the original political message.<\/li>\n
  • Non-Neutrality of Translation:<\/strong> Political translations are not neutral; rather, they reflect the power dynamics and political agendas<\/strong> at play in both the source and target cultures.<\/li>\n
  • Impact of Ideology:<\/strong> Translators’ choices are prominently influenced by ideological and political forces, which results in the alteration of the original message’s content<\/strong> and can lead to changes in the public’s perception of the reported events.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The dissertation <\/strong>presented several key recommendations<\/strong>, including:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • Translators and media institutions must prioritize accuracy and credibility when translating political discourse.<\/li>\n
    • Readers should be vigilant against falling prey to media disinformation by verifying news sources and engaging in comparison.<\/li>\n
    • Research institutions must pay greater attention to the ideological effects of translation in global and local media due to its significant role in the dissemination of rumors and misleading news.<\/li>\n
    • Media misinformation should be highlighted, and the public must be made aware of the roles that ideology plays in misleading public opinion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      \u00a0<\/strong>The PhD dissertation<\/strong> was examined and recommended by the Viva-Voce Committee for acceptance<\/strong> and approval<\/strong>. The PhD defense<\/strong> was attended<\/strong> by a number of academics, researchers, interested students, the candidate\u2019s colleagues, and family members.<\/p>\n
